There are many classical paintings involving funeral images in Dunhuang frescoes,and the funeral rites,concepts and cultures contained in the paintings are also extensive,and they are also rich in artistic expression.Among these Confucian classics paintings involving funeral subjects,Nirvana Confucian classics paintings include numerous ones.Although the content theme expresses the Nirvana of Sakyamuni,the pictures also reflect different funeral concepts and funeral rites of Buddhism,Confucianism and Dunhuang folk.Moreover,it embodies its own unique characteristics in artistic expression,which is a fusion of Buddhist art,Central Plains art and Western Region art.In this paper,Dunhuang Nirvana Classics Painting is the main research content,from the perspective of images,supplemented by literature and Buddhist scriptures.Firstly,the content and funeral rites of Dunhuang Nirvana Painting are analyzed.Through the analysis of images,we can see that the funeral etiquette and concepts of Dunhuang folk and Confucianism and Buddhism are reflected in Nirvana Painting.These funeral concepts of different cultures also reflect a process of Buddhism absorbing local culture and developing in the process of communication.In terms of artistic style,through analyzing and studying the layout,lines,colors and characters of Dunhuang Nirvana Painting,it can be concluded that Nirvana Painting,as a Buddhist art,is absorbed by Central Plains art and Western Regions art in the process of dissemination,and with the changes of dynasties and the further influence of Central Plains culture,Dunhuang Nirvana Painting gradually presents the characteristics of secularization and Central Plains.The changes of these characteristics also reflect the development and evolution of the artistic style of Nirvana painting in Dunhuang from early to mature.
