Associative memory is ubiquitous in our life, and the events we experience are generally preserved in the form of associative memory.Research shows that the memory effect of associative memory with related materials is better than that of associative memory without related materials. So what strategies or methods can promote the memory effect of irrelevant materials? A large number of previous studies have shown that when the memory materials are positive words, and the memory materials are related to self, the memory performance of positive words is significantly better than that of negative words and neutral words under self-reference conditions, that is to say, individuals have a memory preference for positive information related to self.So will this memory preference also exist in associative memory? The current research explores the influence of self-reference processing on the associative memory of unrelated words and the influence of self-reference processing on the associative memory of emotional materials through two experiments.Experiment 1 explored the influence of self-reference processing on associative memory of unrelated word pairs.A mixed experimental design of 2(group: self-group,control group)×3(reaction type: old, recombinant, new)was adopted,Among them, the group is the inter subject variable, the reaction type is the intra subject variable, and the dependent variable is the accuracy of the subjects. The results showed that the main effect of group was significant, and the correct rate of self group was significantly higher than that of control group. The main effect of reaction type was significant, and the correct rate of new reaction type was significantly higher than that of old reaction type, and significantly higher than that of recombinant reaction type. The experimental results show that self-reference processing promotes the associative memory of unrelated pairs of words.Experiment 2 explored the influence of self-reference processing on associative memory of emotional materials.A mixed experimental design of 2(group: self-group,control group)×3(valence: positive,negative,neutral)×3(reaction type: old, recombinant, new)was adopted,in which the group was an inter-group variable, the valence and reaction type were an intra-group variable, and the dependent variable was the correct rate of the subject. The results showed that the main effect of the group was significant, and the correct rate of the self-group was significantly higher than that of the control group The main effects of titer and reaction type are significant; The interaction edge of group, valence and reaction type is significant. For positive word pairs, the correct rate of self-group is significantly higher than that of control group in three reaction types; For negative word pairs, there is no significant difference between the self group and the control group in the old reaction type. The correct rate of self-group is significantly higher than that of control group in recombination reaction type, and that of self-group is significantly higher than that of control group in new reaction type. For neutral word pairs, the correct rate of self-group was significantly higher than that of control group in the old reaction type. There is no significant difference between recombinant reaction type and new reaction type. The experimental results show that self-reference processing can promote associative memory, and there are self-positive deviations in associative memory, but this effect is not obvious in associative memory.Combined with two experiments, the current research results show that self-reference processing as a memory strategy can improve the associative memory of unrelated word pairs, and there is self-positive deviation in associative memory.
