The Literary Studies Of Guiguzi

Guiguzi is a great master of counselors in the pre-Qin Dynasty,whose thoughts are mainly preserved in Guiguzi.This book is a summative theoretical work on the experience of lobbying,giving suggestions and writing skills after the Chunqiu period.Based on the special background of the Chunqiu period,this thesis investigates the ideological content of Guiguzi’s books and Guiguzi himself,then analyzes the literary form and writing characteristics of Guiguzi,exploring the literary concept and its persuasion art embodied in Guiguzi,and finally narrates the influence of Guiguzi’s ideological theory on scheming people in the Chunqiu period and literature in Qin and Han dynasties to later generations,especially on the formation of counselor-literary style,so that this thesis could explore the literary value of Guiguzi.The first chapter analyzes the background of Guiguzi.It mainly examines the ideological dissemination of the scholars in the Chunqiu period and the reasons for the active ideological dissemination in this period.In addition,based on the written background of Guiguzi,this paper analyzes the thoughts of Taoism,Legalists,Confucianism and so on.The second chapter analyzes the writing style of Guiguzi.During the spread of the ideological theories in Chunqiu period,"Guiguzi" is composed of several relatively independent articles,each of which focuses on the topic,which makes the text clear and logical,and the use of condensed and concise aphorisms enhance its charm.The sentence structure has various forms,which includes integrated sentences,long and short collocation,text decoration,paving,boasting text,showing the characteristics of flexible literary style.It can be seen that the text of Guiguzi itself has the characteristic of literariness.The third chapter explores the literary ideas embodied in Guiguzi.Guiguzi put forward “the article should be formed on the basis of speculating the situation and emotion and then the article could be written”,pointing out two necessary conditions which are actually the definition of “the article”.Guiguzi on "speculating the situation",includes “power of measurement” and “speculation of emotion”.The "power of measurement" requires the understanding of social life;the "speculation of emotion" requires the exploration of the connotation,which found out the problems of obtaining literary materials and gaining artistic discoveries in the literary field.As for the request to the counselors in Chunqiu period,Guiguzi has the enlightening function to the literary and artistic creator.The fourth chapter explores the persuasion art of Guiguzi.Guiguzi makes a comprehensive analysis of the object of persuasion,and puts forward concrete suggestions on how to grasp the situation,psychology,characteristics and essence of the object.On this basis,Guiguzi raised strategies to meet the psychological needs of the opposite side,maintain their self-image,and use psychological balance to carry out psychological persuasion.Beyond that,Guiguzi came up with the figure of speech of “symbolizing”,“metaphor”,and “using language to gain the actual situation”.Guiguzi not only pays attention to the use of "saying",but also emphasizes the method of “persuasion”,and makes a detailed analysis and description of it.It is a work of great persuasion art.Chapter five analyzes the literary influence on Guiguzi.The persuasion art and literary thought of Guiguzi provided theoretical support for the lobbying practice of the strategists in the Chunqiu period,so that their speech and deeds with literary characteristics,which were recorded in Zhan Guo ce.This style is inherited by the scholars of Qin and Han dynasties,and it evolves in later generations.It forms the deep images,better than the creation of momentum,and the spread of the text constructs the spirit of the "counselors’ style in Chunqiu period".
