| The translator was entrusted by Longchiwan Battle Memorial Hall of Lixian County,Longnan City,Gansu Province to participate in the translation of Chinese Daughters’ Day—Xihe County Qiqiao Culture,which was published by Zhongzhou Ancient Books Publishing House in 2015.The content of the book involves the folk culture of the Qiqiao Festival,the customs of Qiqiao Festival and cultural relics of Qin Dynasty.The first chapter the Qiqiao Festival in Longnan City is chosen as the translation task to aim at exploring the translation of folk culture.The source text involves the procedures of the Qiqiao Festival and the significance of festival for females.The report is mainly based on three rules of Skopos Theory proposed by Vermeer(1987),which fully reflects the purpose of the report,spreading the folk culture.Skopos Theory is the core content of Functionalist Translation Theory,including the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator analyzes the background information,textual type,textual structures and cultural features of the source text.The translator consults Xihe Qiqiao Songs and Cross-cultural Tourism Translation as parallel texts to obtain accurate terminologies.The translator explores the methods and techniques of translating folk culture and makes some studies on the translation of culture-loaded words and run-on sentences on the basis of learning from others.The text belongs to the informative text,including four-character words,proper nouns,category words,culture-loaded words,dialects,lyrics,and run-on sentences,etc.In view of these features,appropriate translation methods and techniques are chosen and summarized them as follows: The translator summarizes them as follows: Firstly,according to the Skopos rule,literal translation,free translation,literal translation plus annotation,transliteration are adopted to solve the translation difficulties at the lexical level,aiming at increasing the readability of the target text;secondly,according to the coherence rule,translation techniques such as syntactical readjustment,omission,conversion of voice and conversion of parts of speech are adopted to solve the translation difficulties at the syntactic and textual levels,aiming at conveying the logical connotation of the target text;thirdly,according to the fidelity rule,paraphrase and compensation are adopted to solve the difficulties at the cultural level to maintain the uniqueness and originality of national culture,aiming at conveying cultural connotation of the target text;finally,the lyric rhyme is adopted to reproduce the musical beauty of the source text,increasing the appeal of the target text to convey culture;From this translation practice,the translator has gained the following experience: paraphrase is helpful to convey the cultural connotation of culture-loaded words;conversion of voice can make the translation of inanimate sentences to confirm to the habits of target readers.In addition,translators need to make comprehensive usage of parallel texts,translation theories,translation methods and techniques in the future translation practices to achieve the real purpose of cultural transmission. |
