Empathy is an important part of social life, which can help individuals form good interpersonal relationships. But when people have more empathy for certain objects and treat them differently,it can lead to misunderstanding and conflict, which can damage relationships. Some scholars began to explore the influencing factors of different empathy levels for different objects, interpersonal factors such as group norms, but these are difficult to change and apply in real life.Emotion is a complex psychological phenomenon, which is an important factor affecting empathy.Emotion,as an internal state of mind,is easier to change. The social model theory of emotions proposes that happy emotions reduce self-concern and interpersonal distance, and reducing interpersonal distance moderates the phenomenon of different levels of empathy for different objects. This study attempts to explore the influence of emotion on different phenomena of empathy level of different objects,so as to provide a more operable method for real life.Socio-economic status is produced by the difference in the quantity and relative status of the material resources owned by individuals, which has an important impact on the individual’s psychology and behavior.Socio-economic status affects empathy, and differences in empathy for different objects of socioeconomic status affect social harmony. In order to promote social harmony, this study focuses on the factor of socioeconomic status.Previous studies focused more on the socioeconomic status of the object of empathy and less on the effects of both the socioeconomic status of the subject of empathy and the object on empathy. This study focuses on the above two situations. The first study explored the influence of individual emotions on the empathy of objects of different socioeconomic status levels. The socioeconomic status of self and others does not affect individual psychology and behavior in isolation, but also affects empathy in interpersonal interaction. The second study explored the influence of individual emotions on the level of empathy of objects with different socioeconomic status, that is,the influence of individual emotions on the level of empathy of objects with the same or different socioeconomic status.Experiment 1: to explore the influence of individual emotions on empathy of objects of different socioeconomic status levels.A three-factor in-test design was adopted, with 40 sixth and seventh graders from a middle school in Shenzhen(the school is in the May 4th school system)as subjects. The results showed that in sadness and neutral emotions, the pain empathy for objects of low socioeconomic status was higher than that for subjects of high socioeconomic status. In happy mood, there was no significant difference in pain empathy between the two.Experiment 2: to explore the influence of individual emotions on the level of empathy of the same or different objects with their socioeconomic status. The second study added the socioeconomic status of the empathic subject and matched it with the socioeconomic status of the empathic object. When the social and economic status of the two is the same, the social and economic status of the subject and the object is similar. When different, the similarity is low.A two-factor in-test design was adopted, with 55 students in a secondary vocational school in Nanchang as subjects. The results showed that under both sadness and neutral emotions, pain empathy for subjects with high socioeconomic status similarity was significantly higher than that for subjects with low socioeconomic status similarity. In happy mood, there was no significant difference in pain empathy between the two.Combining the results of the two experiments, the conclusions are as follows:(1)Individuals’ pain empathy for objects with high socioeconomic status similarity was higher than that for objects with low socioeconomic status similarity.(2)Happy emotions can reduce the difference of pain empathy for different socioeconomic status objects, that is,Happy emotions can alleviate the phenomenon of different levels of pain empathy for different socioeconomic status objects. |
