| A Coffee with Ren is an interview program, which focuses on innovation, introduces and discusses the development direction of future technology and technology companies. It usually invites senior scientists, engineers, and Huawei founder and president Ren Zhengfei to exchange and learn about economics and future technology. And it is a considerably enlightening program. The author conducts simulated interpreting practice on the excerpts of A Coffee with Ren,hoping to provide target readers with novel views on technological development and further improve her own interpretation skills at the same time.Based on the practice of simulated interpreting of the excerpts from the interview program, this report uses adaptation theory as a guide to analyze specific translation examples and discuss how to achieve acceptable interview interpreting from multiple perspectives such as lexical, syntactic and discourse adaptation,so as to achieve better interpretation effects in terms of textual coherence and accuracy.Adaptation theory advocates that translation should satisfy the three characteristics of language, namely variability, negotiability, and adaptability.Under the guidance of adaptation theory, the interpreter can achieve better and faster effective interpretation. This article uses case analysis to explain the translation difficulties encountered in the interpretation process and the corresponding solutions. In terms of lexical adaptation, interpreters can adopt methods such as word conversion, semantic variation, and four-character structure to make the translation more accurate. In terms of syntax,it is possible for interpreters to follow the order of the sentences from the source text, turn phrases into clauses, and change sentence structure to make the target language more fluent. For contextual adaptation, interpreters can add and delete some content appropriately to enhance the coherence of the translation. In addition, this report explains from the perspective of context that interpreters need to adapt to the communicator’s physical, social and mental worlds, and then make appropriate language choices so as to improve the quality of translation. The author hopes that this report can provide a reference for interview interpreting and contribute to improving the translation quality of interview interpretation. |
