| Geriatric linguistics, which started late,is a new subject in recent years.Internationally, people over 65 years old are defined as the elderly; In China, the standard is for the elderly over 60 years old. This study adopts international standards to study the oral verb production of the elderly. This paper studies the verbal production of the elderly from the perspectives of lexical richness and the comparative study of the elderly and children’s verbs. The research can be divided into three aspects: the analysis of the age ladder of verb production richness of the elderly, the relationship between individual aging and verb production richness, and the comparative study of verb acquisition between the elderly and children.Although there are individual differences among the elderly, the richness of verbal production in oral English of the elderly gradually decreases with the increase of age gradient. The age of 70-74 may be a turning point for the decline of verbal diversity and verb complexity; The age of 75-79 may be a node of the decline of verbal density of the elderly. In the study of the relationship between individual aging and verb production richness, with the aging of individuals, the richness of oral verbs of the elderly may gradually decrease after five years, and the older the age is,the greater the gap between the richness of oral verbs of the elderly after five years and five years ago may be.The comparative study of verbs between the elderly and children shows that the earliest verbs learned in childhood are the least forgotten in the old age,the later the verbs are learned, the more forgotten in the old age,and the most forgotten in the latest acquisition. |
