| Among different kinds of literary conferences in China,the National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers plays a pivotal role.Undoubtedly,the Fourth National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers held in 1979 is a milestone in the history of the development of literature and art in New China.At this conference,Deng Xiaoping,Zhou Yang,Mao Dun and other leaders not only summarized the past 30 years’Chinese literary and art work,but also pointed out the goal of the development of literature and art in the new ear,which reversed the wrong path of literature and art cause in the past and started a new situation of Chinese literary and art cause.The convening of the National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers often put profound influence on the trend of the literary and art circles for a period of time in the future.Literary and art undertakings in the new period just started up gradually with a series of official actions to set things right.Starting from the convening context,main contents,the disputes of the venue,discourse tendency of the Fourth National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers,the paper aims to explore how the conference influenced the construction of the Chinese Marxist literary theory from 1978 to 1988as well as the complex relationship behind it.So as to grasp the construction process of Chinese Marxist literary theory partly,discover the universal rule of literary conference and literary and arts theory construction in the specific historical context in China.The paper intends to discuss from the following four parts.The first part mainly expounds the cultural context in the beginning of New Era at transitional stage,and also the generation of Fourth National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers.After the end of the“Culture Revolution”,the new forces at the beginning of the New Era struggled to uphold the spirit of“emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts”in the game with the old ideas,and gradually became the dominant discourse force in that period.Under the circumstance,the 4th National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers was prepared and convened in the contest between“tend to be left”and“cherish the spring”,which reveals the contradictions and complex to history.The second part is mainly about the 4th National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers under“collision”and“contend”as well as the inherit and continue of the study of the Marxist literary theories.The convening of the 4th National Conference of the Representatives of Literary and Art Workers brought the“Double Hundred”policy back to the center of the historical stage.The slogans of literary democracy and creative freedom became more popular.Based on the reflection of the policy of literature and art under the suppression of the ultra-leftist line in the past,a group of the literary theorists launched several debates on the system of Marxist literary and art theories,the humanistic issues of literature,the unbalance between art production and material production.The third part mainly discusses the aesthetic diversion of Chinese Marxist literary and art theories in the first ten years of the New Era with the process of Return and Break Through.On the one hand,“return”means“back to Marx”.The scholars try to find new theoretical enlightenment in the process of rereading classic Marxist writers.On the other hand,scholars at this time also try to make literature and art return to its own laws.In the“rectification”of literature and art,Chinese Marxist literary theorists came up with the idea of aesthetic reflection and aesthetic ideology,which have expanded the aesthetic dimension of Marxist literary and art theories.Based on the summary and thinking of the above discussion,the remaining part briefly reviews the influence and significance of the previous National Congress of Literature and Art in the generation of contemporary Chinese literature and art.Under the new structure of the relationship of literature and politics,the end of the paper intends to make a reflection of current construction of Chinese Marxist literary and art theories. |
