| Nowadays, there are increasingly frequent academic exchanges among nations and the translation of academic works is evidently of vital importance.Since the reform and opening,Chinese scholars have made impressive academic achievements, and quite a number of well-written works have found their ways overseas through effective translation. The qualified translations have contributed to the spread of the academic ideas of Chinese scholars.Taking as an example the C-E translation of two academic theses titled “Western Marxism” in Mao’s China and The question of nation/nationalism in Chinese postcolonialism, the author points out the inappropriateness in the first version--the illogical choice of the subjects, the sentences in TT rigidly adhering to ST and unclear logical connectivity in discourse. And one important reason for the problems is that the author fails to break the barrier between different cultures, leading to limited idiomaticity and readability. As a result, the ideas in ST cannot effectively be expressed in TT.In view of these problems, the author,by way of case analysis, presents relevant translation strategies, such as choosing the logical subjects, reconstructing sentence structures and clarifying logical connectivity. The inappropriateness in the first version are quite common, and therefore the translation strategies put forward in this paper can be referential for those who would handle similar projects in the future. |
