A Translation Report On Classic Fashion And Body

Fashion exists in life of ordinary Chinese and western people,carrying history,culture and ways of thinking in different nations,thus translation of academic fashion is an important part of culture exchange between China and western countries.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the translation report analyzes the source text of "Western Fashion and Body" in the first chapter of the book Fashion and Body Aesthetics.The report focuses on the translation process and its strategies,as well as the analysis of specific issues under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.Guided by the three rules of the Skopos Theory,translation text cases need to be elucidated by the rule of skopos,coherence and fidelity.The analysis of skopos rule at the lexical level is presented for the translation of four-character and technical terms for the translation text’s acceptability.At syntactic level,the translator uses the rule of coherence as a guide,and employs translation strategies such as syncopation,reorganization,paraphrasing,and conversion of sentences to noun phrases for increasing readability of long and difficult Chinese sentences.At textual level,the translator turns to addition and annotation strategies through the rule of fidelity and coherence for faithfulness.The results show that these translation rules and methods can guide the translation practice of four-character,complicated sentences and paragraphs in Fashion and Body Aesthetics,improve the translation quality,and achieve the purpose of spreading fashion culture.
