Writing plays an important role in English teaching in junior middle school.It is an important means to train students to use English vocabulary and grammar comprehensively.According to the requirements of the new curriculum reform of basic education,it is one of the major goals of English curriculum reform in junior middle school to let students master English knowledge and English skills and improve their comprehensive ability of using language.However,at present,the teaching of English writing in junior middle school is not effective,and it is an indisputable fact that students’ writing ability is low.So,what methods should be adopted to improve the teaching of English writing? The author believes that it is an effective way to apply the reflective teaching theory prevailing in the western educational circles to the teaching of English writing in junior middle school.This thesis is based on the reflective teaching trend of thought in the new period and the realistic background of the new curriculum reform of the basic education,trying to be based on the reflective teaching model,by means of questionnaire survey,interview survey and English writing teaching experiment to carry out empirical research,to study what effect reflective teaching has on junior high school students’ interest in English writing,what effect reflective teaching has on junior high school students’ strategies in English writing and what effect reflective teaching has on junior high school students’ performance in English writing.In this paper,two parallel classes in the eighth grade of Forty-four Middle Schools in Dalian were used as experimental subjects,one as experimental class and the other as control class.In the early stage,students’ English learning was investigated by means of questionnaires,and pre-test was conducted,then teaching experiments were designed,reflective teaching was conducted in the experimental class,and post-test was conducted afterwards,the results of pre-test and post-test were compared between the experimental class and the control class.At last,students were interviewed.The results show that compared with the traditional indoctrination teaching model,reflective teaching model is more conducive to stimulating students’ writing enthusiasm,cultivating their flexible thinking mode,and enabling students to develop good English learning habits,to increase students’ confidence in learning English,so as to improve their English writing ability.
