A Report On The Translation Of Deaf Eyes On Interpreting(Chapter 12 And Chapter 13)

This translation report takes Chapter 12“Going Beyond Trust:Protecting My Integrity as a Deaf Academic" and Chapter 13 "Educational Interpreting from Deaf Eyes" in the third part of the book Deaf Eyes on Interpreting as the source text.The source book is co-edited by Thomas K.Holcombe and David H.Smith.The book falls into the category of the informative text,working on the trust between interpreters and deaf people and education in deaf communities.This translation report records the English to Chinese translation process of these two chapters in the theoretic domain of George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion theory,namely,trust,aggression,incorporation,and compensation.In so-doing,this translation report confirms that the translating process of this informative text complies with George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion theory in translating this academic writing,and this theory functions well in guiding the translator’s choice of the source text before translating,and addressing difficulties at a lexical level during translating.This report consists of five parts.Part one is the background of the source text,including the publishing information and contents of the source book,introduction of the source writers and the significance of this translation project.Part two is a literature review of George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion theory.Part three depicts the translating process,from preparations,information searching and book-reading.Part four is case analysis,including a brief introduction of fourfold translation motion theory and an analysis of how the theory solves the problem of translation.The last part is the conclusion,including the room for further improvement and enlightenment and experiences the author of this report has gained from his translating practice.
