Left-behind children in rural areas are a special group that can not be ignored in the process of social development in China,and their survival and development have been widely concerned.School,as an important environment for their growth,determines that school satisfaction has a significant impact on the harmonious development of left-behind children.In this study,1,936 primary and middle school students from four rural primary and middle schools in Anhui and Shandong provinces were investigated,among whom 622 were left-behind children.To investigate the satisfaction of left-behind children in rural areas with school and explore its relationship with perceived social support and self-esteem.On this basis,a group counseling program is developed to improve left-behind children’s understanding of social support,so as to improve their school satisfaction through the counseling of left-behind children’s understanding of social support.The results are as follows:1.Primary and secondary school students’ school satisfaction,perceived social support and self-esteem are generally at a medium and high level.Rural left-behind children are significantly lower than non-left-behind children in school satisfaction,perceived social support,total self-esteem and other dimensions.2.There are significant differences in school satisfaction of rural left-behind children in terms of school period,parents’ going out,the number of brothers and sisters,and academic performance;There was no significant difference between the sexes.3.Rural left-behind children’s perception of social support is significantly different in gender,school length,number of brothers and sisters,and academic performance;There was no significant difference in parental outings.4.The self-esteem level of rural left-behind children is significantly different in school grades and academic performance variables;There were no significant differences in gender,parental travel,and number of siblings.5.School satisfaction,perceived social support and self-esteem have significant positive correlation.Perceived social support and self-esteem can effectively predict school satisfaction,and self-esteem plays a partial mediating role between perceived social support and school satisfaction.6.Group psychological counseling can significantly improve rural left-behind children’s understanding of the level of social support,and then improve the school satisfaction of rural left-behind children.
