| This paper is a translation practice report.The source text is the Fourth Chapter of Wendy Williams` Butterflies of Language,which describes the study of butterflies by biological butterfly scientists,belonging to general popular book.Chapter 4 looks at Merian as a case study of the research and devotion made by scientist.Bonding with the content and characteristics of source text,this text belongs to the informative text according to the text typology of Peter Newmark.And this translation activity will apply Newmark’s communicative translation which stresses that the targeted readers can receive a similar effect as possible with the source readers.After analyzing the type of source text,this report will expound the sentence patterns,structure and implicit information through some examples in detail.Based on the analysis on translation cases and communicative theory,the translator will adopt division,inversion and conversion to handle this problem.The aim delivered in this thesis is to explore the translation practice of this scientific text,and to analyze with examples how to use some translation strategies and methods to render complicated sentences appropriately and accurately as well as to enrich the research database. |
