A Report On The Translation Of A World Without Work:Technology,Automation And How We Should Respond(Chapter 3-4)

As science and technology develop,artificial intelligence is gradually integrated into human life and increasingly used in various fields.Such being the case,humans have to rethink the impact of technology and automation on human work,and a correct understanding of the relationship between the two is crucial.The source text of this report is composed of the third and fourth chapters of A World Without Work:Technology,Automation and How We Should Respond.The selected chapters are about the pragmatist revolution in AI and the fact that humans have actually underestimated the capabilities of machines.This report is based on Peter Newmark’s text typology,semantic translation and communicative translation.The main translation difficulties are proper nouns and terms,pronouns and complex sentences.When determining that the source text is primarily informative,to accurately convey the original information to readers and ensure the readability of the translation,corresponding translation methods and techniques are adopted.Annotation and transliteration are used to deal with proper nouns and terms;repetition and omission are used to manage pronouns;division and restructuring are used to handle complex sentences.This report has five parts.It first introduces the background,significance and structure of the report,then analyzes the source text,explains the theoretical framework,discusses translation difficulties and solutions,and finally draws a conclusion.This report intends to catch more people’s attention to artificial intelligence,and meanwhile to further realize the impact of automation on human work;moreover,the translator hopes that it can provide some help and reference for the later translation of the similar text type.
