This is a report on the translation of Surviving Global Warming: Why Eliminating Greenhouse Gases Isn’t Enough(Chapter Ⅲ)by Roger A.Sedjo.As an informative text,it mainly delivers information to readers. The translation report will not only get the target readers to understand the limitations of current mitigation approach, but also provide a reference for the future translation of informational texts concerning the topic. When translating the source text, the translator strives to achieve the accuracy and readability of the target text.During the translation process, the translator found it hard to translate the sentences with impersonal subjects and the complex sentences. In order to maximize the fidelity and smoothness of the target text, the translator chose Vermeer’s skopos theory to guide this translation report. For the translation of sentences with impersonal subjects, the translator mainly adopts the translation technique of addition, which means to add a personal subject to the target text based on the source context and change the sentence pattern if necessary. When translating the complex sentences, the translator mainly adopts two translation techniques, namely, division and inversion.
