The source text of this translation report is Agatha Christie’s uses of Shakespeare,an academic article by Professor Jem Bloomfield. This article investigates Agatha’s engagement with Shakespeare, focusing on the associations between Agatha’s novels and Shakespeares’ poets and plays, especially in the respects of characters and plots..In the process of translating this article by Professor Jem Bloomfield which is academically very challenging, the author of this translation report applied the translating method of adding paratexts in the light of Nile Jenette’s paratext theory.By doing so,she found that this theory helped address difficulties in translating, such as the lack of background information and ambiguity in the references and allusions. The ultimate purpose is to,hopefully, faciliate better comprehensibiliy. This report has four parts.Part one consists of the background of the source text, including the publishing information, main contents of the source article, introduction of the source writer Professor Jem Bloomfield, and the significance of this translation project.Part two is a literature review of the studies on paratexts and the translating method of adding paratexts.Part three is the process of translation including pre-translation preparations, difficulties in translating and responding solutions. The last part is a conclusion of the whole report.
