An English-Chinese Translation Report On:BLITZKRIEG:From The Rise Of Hitler To The Fall Of Dunkirk (Excerpt)

This translation report is excerpted from a historical work BLITZKRIEG: From the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Dunkirk by the British writer Len Deighton about the process from the rise of Hitler to the fall of the Third Reich.Inspired by Reiss’ s text type theory,the original text is classified and the characteristics of different text types are analyzed to help understand the author’s language style and appreciate the author’s intention.This book is a historical work,and the author’s intention is mainly to reveal historical facts and truths,so the translator mainly adopts faithful translation in order to offer as much as possible readers what is true and objective in the original text.During the process of post-translation revision,the translator revised the translation inspired by theories such as text type and the reader’s reception in order to make the translation conform to the Chinese way of expression and thinking as well as to meet the readers’ experience.This report is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background,significance,customer requirements and structure of the translation project.The second part describes the process of translation,including preparations before translation,difficulties encountered in translation and their solutions,and post-translation proofreading.The third part introduces the theoretical support of this report and analyzes the application of text type theory and theories in relation to the reader’s reception in this report.The fourth part analyzes the problems from the perspective of adequacy and acceptability.The fifth part summarizes the translator’s experience and limitations in this translation practice.
