| The National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School requires the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning ability,comprehensive use of language ability and the ability to summarize learning strategies in the learning process.Listening,speaking,reading and writing are not only the four basic abilities,but also a necessary means to improve the English ability of high school students.In addition,many high school students lack confidence in English writing and rarely take the initiative to conduct self-testing.Recitation is a traditional learning method in our country,which greatly promotes language learning.Therefore,it is very necessary to study whether the memorization of model essays can improve the English writing level of high school students.This research is based on Krashen’s language input theory and Swain’s language output theory.It takes 122 students from two classes of 2017 grade two in Guangxi Liuzhou Gangyi Senior High School as the research object,and applies the traditional recitation method to high school English writing teaching.Through experimental research,questionnaire surveys and interviews,the effectiveness of model essay memorization in improving high school students’ English writing skills is explored.The specific research questions are as follows.(1)What effect does recitation have on English underachievers’ interest and attitude in learning English writing?(2)What effect does recitation have on the English writing performance of English underachievers?(3)In what aspects does recitation improve the English writing level of English underachievers?The conclusions of the research are as follows.(1)Recitation can help English underachievers increase their interest in learning English and improve their attitudes towards learning English.(2)Recitation input improves the English writing performance of English underachievers.(3)Recitation input improve English underachievers’ writing performance from the following aspects: vocabulary,grammar and the overall structure.To be more specific,recitation input can help students expand their writing vocabulary and improve the accuracy of English grammar,thereby improving the overall English writing level of English underachievers in senior high school.Based on the research results,the author offers some suggestions for teachers and students.For teachers,they should first encourage English underachievers to overcome the difficulties of English writing so that students can gradually build up their self-confidence and develop interest in English writing.Secondly,teachers should try to offer a variety of strategies for underachievers to deal with English writing.More importantly,teachers should choose the recitation materials carefully and make a feasible plan to check their performance.For students,the most important is to build up the confidence and interesting in English writing by finding an available method.Second,try to look for some short passages that attract them to read and recite so that they gain enough comprehensible input. |
