There are higher requirements for the development of students’ writing skills in the English Curriculum Standards for Senior Middle School(2017 Edition).Students are required to be able to choose appropriate methods to output and thus communicate smoothly when facing different objects and different situations.This research,under the guidance of the English Curriculum Standards for Senior Middle School(2017Edition),attempts to investigate the feasibility of using literary stylistics theory to improve senior middle school students’ English writing skills and how to teach English writing under the guidance of literary stylistics theory.The topic of the study was selected from first-hand information in teaching practice and reading literature.After compiling the research related to the application of literary stylistics theory to guide the English writing teaching in China,we found that there are few practices of using literary stylistics theory to guide English writing teaching in basic education.This research takes 117 students in three grade one classes and their English teachers in two senior middle schools as the subjects of the research and uses literature analysis method,questionnaires and interviews to investigate the current situation of English writing teaching in senior middle school,find out the problems in teaching,investigate the factors of the problems at both student and teacher levels.This research proposes suggestions for using literary stylistics theory to guide English writing teaching.Through the analysis of the obtained materials,this research finds that the following problems exist in the process of English writing teaching in senior middle schools: 1)teachers cannot start systematic writing teaching due to the lack of class time;2)teachers are accustomed to the traditional English writing teaching model,i.e.,students are required to memorize templates and then fill them in;3)teachers pay attention to the results and scores in writing teaching and ignore the problems in the teaching process;4)teachers ignore the way of writing evaluation and lack effective teacher-student communication.To address the above problems,this research elaborates the method for teaching English using literary stylistics theory and demonstrates the practice of English writing teaching in theme context,genre,and stylistic function.This research shows that using literary stylistics theory to guide English writing teaching in senior middle school is in line with the requirements of the English Curriculum Standards for Senior Middle School(2017 Edition),and can cultivate students’ stylistic awareness and improve the effectiveness of writing teaching.The research has certain theoretical and practical significance.Due to the lack of academic power and research time,this research has some limitations,which are to be improved in future related research.
