On The Characterization Of Characters In The Feature Films Of Historical Figures

The culture of honest and upright officials is an important part of Chinese traditional culture.It is an important content of Chinese literature and art to set up a monument for honest and upright officials.Since the 1990 s,the production of feature films about historical figures is in the ascendant,also the historical films and TV plays on anti-corruption are widely sought after.Although Mr.Shi Ying was not a leader in the period of the Republic of China,he was known as "the first upright official of the republic of China",which was widely praised and respected by the people of that time and later generations.My graduation work "the First Upright Official of the Republic of China" is the first character feature film about Mr.Shi Ying.In the case that Mr.Shi Ying’s audio-visual materials are extremely lacking,I have made more attempts and efforts in reproducing and shaping the personality of Mr.Shi Ying.This thesis is the theoretical discussion and summary of these efforts.This paper considers that the personality of historical figures refers to their unique thoughts,words and deeds,distinctive qualities and characteristics,glorious achievements and far-reaching influence.The personality of Mr.Shi Ying includes his tortuous life experiences such as "studying abroad to serve his motherland","revolution against the Qing Dynasty","three oddities in Hubei","Mayor of Commoner ","Anti Japanese to save the country" and "dedication",as well as his patriotic,people loving,rectitude,diligent,anti Japanese and strive achievements.In order to show and shape these personality characteristics,this thesis proposes that we should pay attention to the angle of topic selection,grasp the correct guidance,pay attention to detail description,and focus on three aspects of narrative strategies,editing skills and the use of verbal language.In the use of narrative strategies,we should pay attention to the character’s language,narrative characteristics,narrative nodes and narrative details.In the use of editing skills,we should ensure the main meaning,grasp the editing rhythm and skillfully use editing techniques;in the use of sound language,we should accomplish the simultaneous sound,commentary and background music.With all these works done,the historical figures in the feature film will come to life.The feature films of historical figures "Shi Ying,the First Upright Official of the Republic of China" I made not only improved my abilities of film making and production but also improved my abilities of theoretical cognition and summarizing,especially on how to shape and reproduce the personality characteristics of historical characters.Of course,my soul has been purified again and again in the shooting of the works,therefore I will take Mr.Shi Ying as my life idol.The graduation film and thesis will be an important milestone in my radio and television career.
