| In the 1930 s,after the failure of the Great Revolution, many people with lofty ideals eagerly and passionately sought a way out of the revolution.During this period,left-wing groups grew stronger and left-wing literature developed more vigorously.Pushed by the social situation, the left-wing literary trend, like a magnificent tide, had a great impact and influence on the literary circle and society at that time. However, during this period,Lin Yutang, with the attitude of "not talking about politics",had a foothold in the turbulent Shanghai, and was obviously unable to be completely independent under the cultural pressure of Kuomintang and the squeeze of the left wing.As a proletarian revolutionary writers’ union under the leadership of the Communist Party, the Left League’s proletarian political position is very clear. As a literary society charged with the mission of uniting the nation’s literary masses, the Left League tried to persuade Lin to participate in the political collective trend. However,Lin Yutang’s insistence on self-subjectivity prevented the Left League from turning to criticism and struggle. The ups and downs of the relationship between the two have become a controversial page in literary history. This paper attempts to sort out and analyze the relationship between Lin Yutang and the Chinese Left Wing Writers Union on the basis of historical materials. This paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter mainly combs the details of contacts between Lin Yutang,Lu Xun,Guo Moruo and other representatives of the Left League,as well as the criticism of Lin Yutang by the representative magazine of the Left League,Taibai.Lin Yutang fought back on the platform of his own creation, such as The Analects of Confucius and The World on Earth. There is a difference in value as well as an element of personal passion in this mutual attack. The second chapter mainly combs the details of the origin, course and continuation of the conflict between Lin Yutang and the Left League.Since Lin Yutang began to advocate humor,he has buried the root of contradiction. The Left League believed that literature and art were the voice of politics and required the literati to write literature in a hierarchical way.Lin Yutang adheres to individual subjectivity, does not talk about class, does not participate in partisan contention. Each sticks to,the contradiction deepens gradually. The debate between Lin Yutang and the Left League is a process of interweaving politics and literature and art.The third chapter mainly analyzes the relationship between them from the realistic environment and literary aesthetics. While affirming their historical contributions such as the sense of mission and concern for society, they also have their limitations.Among them, there are differences in values, aesthetic principles, interests and personal characters.Such collision sparks bring more vigor and vitality to the history of literature, which is conducive to the formation of the pattern of multiculturalism. |
