A Study Of Disease Narrative In D·H· Lawrence’s Novels

Diseases in literature have a long history and have been concerned by scholars at home and abroad.In Lawrence’s 12 novels and more than 70 short stories,disease narrative is also a very prominent phenomenon,even as important as the gender narrative in his works.His disease narrative has a more comprehensive description from physical diseases to mental diseases,including tuberculosis,cancer,physical paralysis,depression,depression,masochism and other types.In Lawrence’s disease narrative,he describes the characters of various disease types through the flexible narrative perspective,different forms of discourse forms,and the artistic techniques of metaphors and symbols,showing their problems,the confusion,and the inevitable outcome.The disease narrative of Lawrence’s novel has the significance of reflection and exploration on the process of modern western civilization to the human living environment,as well as physical and mental health.With the development of the western modernization process,the traditional living environment and survival relationship have changed fundamentally,which makes people become further alienated and powerless in the relationship between "man and nature,man and society,man,man and self ".So Lawrence used his novel narrative to show a series of pathological phenomena and psychological aspects,so as to allusion to the various problems arising in the development of modern British society and various disasters brought to people.The paper is composed of three chapters and nine sections.Chapter one,three sections mainly starts with the natural and social environment of Lawrence ’s survival and the family relationship,and discusses the internal relationship between the disease narrative of Lawrence’ s novel and his personal life experience.Chapter two,three sections mainly sort out and explore the main art forms and characteristics of Lawrence’s novel disease narrative from the aspects of various disease characters,the plot interpretation form,narrative structure and discourse style of the novel story.Chapter three,three sections mainly start with the reality of the disease narrative of Lawrence novels,focusing on the literary thinking,reflective significance and treatment strategy.The paper focuses on the combination of detailed text reading with the social and cultural environment,and unifies the narrative of individual disease with the overall fate of mankind.Using narrative,literature geography,psychology,sociology and other research methods,through Lawrence novel disease narrative in the process of modern physical disease and mental contusion,dialysis writers on the development of modern society,the exploration and care of complete human nature,thinking and enlightenment on the process of human civilization.
