David Cronenberg is known as "Canada’s most famous international film director",and he is known for his body horror film.Throughout the life of Cronenberg,the uniqueness of his works is not only reflected in the grotesque style of the body horror film,but also in the transcendence of this genre.He has artistically treated the body horror and supplemented the horror genre;At the same time,he also complicates the narrative of art films through the adaptation of modernist literature,and incorporates body elements into art films,which makes art films terrorize,thereby blurring the boundary between genre movies and art films.And bring modern science and technology to the transformation of the body,and the issue of identity anxiety that accompanies the transformation of the body into the audience’s vision,forming a body fable in contemporary society.This article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter focuses on Cronenberg’s early body horror films and how to make the body horror films artistic.First of all,we will explore from the peripheral perspective of contemporary horror genres,trying to outline the connection and difference between Cronenberg’s body horror films and contemporary horror films.Secondly,we will analyze the specificity of Cronenberg’s body horror films and analyze the body.The terrorist mechanism of terror is elaborated.Finally,it explores the philosophical significance of the horror of the body,paying particular attention to the changes in the body under the leadership of modern science and technology.Technology enables the body to be generated,and the identity is transformed accordingly.The second chapter mainly focuses on three issues.First,when establishing the author’s directorship,how did Cronenberg weaken the elements of the body horror films while maintaining a certain continuity with the early body horror films;second,how to achieve countermeasures by incorporating Hollywood elements Genre narrative;Third.How to complicate the narrative of art films by adapting modernist texts to highlight the problem of identity transformation.Firstly,the reasons for the style change will be explained from the director’s intention,and secondly,the style and form of the works of this period and the theme of identity transformation introduced with the modernist literary adaptation will be analyzed in detail,so as to explore the above three issues.The third chapter focuses on two issues.First,how Cronenberg used narrative to arouse the audience’s perception of the body during the internationalization period,so as to realize the return of the early body horror films’ elements and make art films terrorize.Second,How to reveal the constructive problem of Hollywood mythology through reflexive narrative.Therefore,this chapter will explore the narrative mechanism of Cronenberg’s "normalized" body by comparing the "normalized" body of Cronenberg’s post-2005 works with the "transgressive" body of his earlier works.In this way,it will answer the questions of how Cronenberg’s works in this period pay homage to and return to the earlier genre of body horror,how to accomplish the artistic effect of art film horror,and how to blur the boundary between genre and art films.
