This translation practice report is based on the E-C translation practice of “Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams ”,focusing on the language features and translation difficulties of textual coherence in information texts, discussing and summarizing practical translation methods through case studies.According to Katharina Reiss’ s text type, the selected translation material for this report is informative text, which is characterized by relatively complex content, variable sentence patterns and obvious coherence characteristics at the grammatical and semantic levels. There are differences in thinking habits and logical expressions between English and Chinese,so how to present their coherent characteristics in the translation is a difficult point for translators in the translation process. Therefore, the translator chooses Communicative Translation Theory to focus on grammatical cohesion, which is divided into four major parts, including reference, substitution, ellipsis and conjunction.Taking into account the impact of the differences in the cohesion of English and Chinese texts on translation practice, the translator is not limited to the form of expression of the original text in the process of Chinese translation, but on the basis of ensuring the accurate transmission of the original information, based on the communicative translation theory, five translation methods were mainly adopted, including reappearing the pronoun, omitting cohesive devices, retaining cohesive devices, adjusting conjunctions and adding conjunctions,so as to achieve the fluency and readability of the translation. The translator expects that the research results of this article will provide a certain reference value for the translation research and practice of textual cohesive devices in information texts.
