English reading is an increasingly crucial skill in the course of English learning.Teachers spend a hard time with conventional methods in reading teaching.Such methods,however,have failed to address the teaching effects of students’ reading ability and thinking quality.Therefore,teachers need to explore an effective teaching method urgently.Mind map is a kind of cognitive tool that can assist students in comprehending the text and preparing their thoughts visibly.Therefore,the study is going to apply mind map in English reading teaching in senior high school and expect to improve students’ reading ability and cultivate their thinking quality.This study will answer the following two questions:(1)What’s the effect of the application of mind map on students’ reading ability in English reading teaching in senior high school?(2)What’s the effect of the application of mind map on students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching in senior high school?(The effect is focused on the logicality,criticalness and creativity of thinking quality).The researcher started a three-month experiment with two parallel classes in Shenyang No.11 Senior High School.The experimental class has 52 students taught with mind maps;the control class has 52 students taught by conventional methods.The research instruments include English reading tests,questionnaires and interview.The data of the tests and questionnaires are analyzed by SPSS 26.0.And results of the interview are sorted and analyzed based on the outline.The results of the research show that:(1)Students’ reading ability has been effectively improved after the application of mind map in English reading teaching.(2)The application of mind map in English reading teaching can improve students’ thinking quality.The logicality,criticalness and creativity of students’ thinking all have a significant improvement in a statistical sense.
