“The Transfiguration of Paul Curreri” is a long expressive article published by Brendan Fitzgerald on English website ―Longreads‖.It introduces the musical life of singer Paul Curreri, mainly describing that his music career is affected by hand and voice problems. This paper is a report of the translation of the whole article and the study is under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. In general,an expressive text has its own characteristics. In fact, the primary purpose of the translation activity is to reproduce the author‘s intention and satisfy reader‘s demands for obtaining information. The report analyzes how English static words are transformed into Chinese dynamic forms and how the conversion from dynamic state to static one is achieved for fluent translation. Then it studies and summarizes the translation methods to achieve the transformation between the two states, including conversion, addition of verbs and substitution of weak verbs as well as omission of some verbs, generalization of notional verbs and the use of Chinese character ―的‖(as adjective mark).Differences between eastern and western thinking modes result in the dynamic and static differences in Chinese and English languages. It is generally believed that English is static, characterized by frequent use of nouns while Chinese is dynamic, characterized by free use of verbs. However, conversion from static to dynamic also occurs in practical E-C translation.Considering the respective characteristics of the two languages, this report is aimed at studying translation strategies in terms of conversion between dynamic and static states, and provides references for translation of expressive text.
