The Translation Report On Management Consultancy (Chapter 1)

This dissertation is a translation report on the English-Chinese translation of a management consulting work,Management Consultancy.The first chapter of this book is selected for translation.The author of this book aims to give readers a comprehensive introduction to the management consulting industry,including its characteristics,development status,composition and the professional perspective of global experts,and extracts typical and vivid cases from his research projects,published works and interviews for readers’ in-depth discussion.In this translation practice,the translator adopts Toury’s Translation Norm Theory as the guiding theory,and the needs of readers are fully considered to make the translation fluent and clear to understand.In the report,it respectively expounds the influence and restriction of preliminary norms,initial norms and operational norms on the translation by analyzing specific examples from the book,as well as the translation strategies and techniques adopted by the translator to seek a balance between Chinese norms and English norms in the translation process are also be discussed.The purpose of this translation task is to introduce excellent foreign academic works into China for domestic students and scholars to learn from,and to provide supplementary learning materials for students who major in management consulting and studying abroad.On the other hand,this report studies academic translation from the novel perspective of Translation Norms Theory,hoping to provide new research perspective and materials for academic translation research and the study of translation of management works.This report expounds the translation process in detail and consists of four chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the background of the translation task,the theme and characteristics of the text.The second chapter describes the process of translation,which is divided into three stages: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is the core of this report.It is the analysis of the specific cases in the text combined with the preliminary norms,initial norms and operational norms of translation norms theory,illustrates the key and difficult points,and puts forward the solutions.The fourth chapter is the summary of the whole translation task,from the view of the requirements of translators’ ability,points out the shortcomings in the translation practice,summarizes the valuable experience,hoping to provide reference for the future translation work.
