A Report On Translation Of R-7m 3-machine 3-strand Continuous Casting Machine Technical Proposal

With the gradual deepening of reform and opening up and the rapid development of the Belt and Road,cross-border business contacts and project cooperation with third world countries have become increasingly frequent.And Chinese-English bilingual technical proposals have become the key to the smooth cooperation between the two parties.The translation of standardized technical proposals can not only ensure the smooth progress of foreign trade activities,but also promote China?s economic development and technical exchanges and cooperation between countries in the world.The author takes the translation of a technical proposal about continuous casting machine as the translation text of the report.The proposal is signed by Wuxi Bolong Machinery Co.,Ltd.as an important part during the author?s internship.The English version of this technical proposal is to provide technical guidance for the engineers of the Hungarian partner to ensure the smooth progress of the cooperation between the two parties.During translation,many verbs and non-subject sentences as well as sentences with long prepositive attributive are encountered by the author.Hence,the author employs the translation instruments of Tmxmall and Trados to translate the technical proposal and uses the class shift and structure shift of Catford?s translation shift theory to solve problems encountered in the translation process.In conclusion,the author finds that the problem of too many verbs in Chinese sentences can be solved by converting verbs into nouns or prepositional phrases in the process of technical translation by applying the class shift of Catford?s translation shift theory.In addition,the author uses the structure shift of Catford?s translation shift theory to solve the problems of non-subject sentences and sentences with long prepositive attributives by converting active voice into passive voice and prepositive into postpositive attributives.The project has completed cooperation with Hungary and the translation of this technical proposal has played an important role in the smooth cooperation between the two parties.In addition,this report can also provide some reference for future Chinese-English translation of similar technical projects.
