| Machine Translation refers to automatically converting one language into another one with the help of computer,which has huge differences with that of Computer Aided Translation.The former utilises computer to process translation all the way down from input to output,whereas the latter needs labour inference.Machine Translation has seen enormous development recent years,refreshing all the translator industry.Meanwhile,debates have been witnessed in the realm of translation scholars,and all the participants,scholars or translators,have tasted the challenge.To cope with all above,this paper focuses on the very difficult attributive clauses,from perspectives of quantity and quality,to analyses the translation of Submarine Design and Development(Chapter 12,13 and Appendix)of MT and manual translation.From the perspective of quantity,this paper adepts wide-confirmed Scale of Intelligibility and Scale of Fidelity as analysing frame,utilising SPSS independent sample t-test to compare the accuracy and stability of two translation broadly;from the perspective of quality,this paper stands on the equivalence theory to take a further look into a more micro scope of syntactic position as well as conversion.This paper obtains the following conclusions:1)when it comes to marine technology translation,manual translation,in the broader scale,performs better than MT,especially in terms of accuracy and stability;2)MT handles worse than manual when it comes to inner parts of attributive clauses translation;3)manual translation manipulates better equivalence.Combining the conclusions above,this paper issues suggestions to modern translators that they should better integrate both advantages of human and computer to pursue a career-transfer to post-translation editing.Only in this way can they achieve a translation improvement of quantity and quality. |
