As a unique medical technology of China,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)carries the excellent traditional culture.TCM textbooks with high quality convey the theory and clinical experience and lay the foundation of talent training of TCM.The English translation of Chinese TCM textbooks promotes TCM process of internationalization.This translation material is Various Schools of Traditional Chinese Medicine Theories,one of the fifth edition textbooks of TCM.As an advanced textbook for related majors of TCM,it specifically expounds the academic schools and experience of medical experts in China and reflects the achievements of TCM in the past dynasties.The general introduction and the overview part of eight specific discussions are mainly extracted.Based on the analysis of the stylistic characteristics,this report is from the perspective of ethnic linguistics to guide the translation of lexical and syntactic levels.With the comprehensive use of existing research results on TCM translation,this report focuses on a large number of TCM terms,ancient book titles,quotations from the source texts of ancient books and the quotations of doctors’ opinions to discuss the corresponding translation strategies.It also discusses the grammatical cohesion and semantic coherence in discourse translation by using the theories of discourse cohesion and coherence.This report aims at enriching the English versions of TCM textbooks,understanding the influence of academic debates among famous doctors on the development of TCM,showing national consciousness and spreading TCM theories and Chinese culture.Meanwhile,to a certain extent,it provides a reference for the translation studies of such text.
