Along with globalization,local tourism in China has shown a good momentum of development,attracting not only a large number of domestic tourists but also foreign visitors.Yizheng,as the host of the 2021 World Horticultural Exposition,is a beautiful city with profound cultural background.However,the translation materials of cultural tourism publicity in Yizheng are rare,and those related to garden culture are almost blank.Therefore,this translation practice is significant to the spread of Chinese culture as well as the development of local tourism economy.This report,taking the English translation of the content related to Yizheng garden from the book What influenced Yizheng as an example,aims to explore the translation strategies of cultural tourism text,conveying to readers the garden culture in Yizheng.Based on the combination of domestication and foreignization,appropriate addition and deletion and emphasis on historical culture,the author analyzes the difficulties encountered in translation from lexicon,sentence and discourse.At the lexical level,translation methods such as transliteration,annotation,linguistic translation and synonym substitution are adopted for the translation of culture-specific words related to garden including names of scenic spots and gardens and culture-specific words related to history including names of official,places and historical events.Besides,subject addition and paraphrasing are employed for the translation of no-subject sentences and Chinese ancient poems.With respect to textual level,the translator adopts such translation methods as adding conjunctions and merging and deleting.Through the translation practice,the author realizes that the translation of cultural tourism texts must be oriented towards target readers,with a flexible choice of domestication or foreignization,so as to optimize cross-cultural translation.The author hopes that this translation practice will contribute to the “going out” of Yizheng culture and render a reference for the translation of such cultural tourism texts. |
