Rooted in the severe natural environment, the Japanese culture was influenced by Confucian and Buddhism culture that also belong to East Asian agriculture civilization, and later underwent Westernization in an all-round way.Nowadays,Eastern and Western cultures combine to form Japanese culture in a variety of art forms.Inspired by American films after the war,Japanese filmmakers incorporated Japanese cultural elements into films. The genre of films that use realism to mirror social states through the depiction of family life gradually matured, and family films become a unique cultural benchmark in Japan.During the same period, the Japanese neo-realist film movement was in full swing, and film masters represented by Keisuke Kinoshita,Akira Kurosawa, and Yasujiro Ozu emerged, and the Japanese family film model further matured. The Japanese film industry saw the emergence of a great many film masters, but the film industry waxed and waned several times alongside the ups and downs in the Japanese economy. In the early 1990 s,the new wave movement in the Japanese film sector emerged again as the effects of economic depression gradually disappeared.Hirokazu Koreeda became a filmmaker at the end of the new wave movement in the 1990 s.This research confirms the mapping relationship between the realism characteristics of his films and the real Japanese society through comparative research, explores his realistic critical theme selection and non-revolutionary expression means, and traces his awareness of and attitude towards issues in Japanese society.Based on the group characteristics of the film characters,it describes the individual dilemmas and group problems for different groups through the four types of characters: males, females, the old and the young.Hirokazu Koreeda’s films attach importance to narrative skills and audiovisual language that imitate the characteristics of real life.He makes reasonable use of film techniques to give a more real atmosphere to the films, condensing and projecting the complete life into the films. While creating a real atmosphere for films,he keeps a distance between the audience’s perspective and the characters to give an objective, rational and somber viewing experience. The poetic subjective expressions are shown through the symbols,so that the poetic subjective expressions are concealed in the plot of cruel realities. The multiple narrations composed of the somber surface and the inherent poetry create a realistic and romantic audiovisual language. In terms of culture, conflicts and confrontations exist between Japan’s modernized social ideology and its fragmentary traditional culture.Hirokazu Koreeda develops the aesthetics of traditional culture and the core of traditional culture, and makes inquiry into the highly modernized and vacuous spiritual state. His films achieve synergy between the core of Japanese traditional culture and modern material framework, and leverages the comprehensive art form of films to create a new type of Japanese cultural pattern. In summary, the purport is to study and generalize the films of Hirokazu Koreeda, and summarize the genre of his films.Through the study of the realism characteristics of his films,it analyzes the narrative perspective and audiovisual language techniques, and studies the three parts of traditional Japanese attitude to aesthetics, culture inheritance and development in his films.Based on realism, his films combine the unique Japanese attitude to aesthetics and the pungent realistic criticism, and strikes a balance between the oriental romantic feelings of expressing feelings through the landscape and the somber objective feeling of realistic criticism, thus creating his own genre of film.
