A Report On E-C Translation Of Jeanette Winterson’s Novel Boating For Beginners

This thesis is an English to Chinese translation report on the contemporary British writer Jeanette Winterson’s novel Boating for Beginners.This report is divided into four parts: Part One fully describes the background of the translation task and introduction of the source text.Part Two presents the process of preparation and implementation of the translation while doing the translation quality control.Part Three focuses on several problems the translator has met in the translation such as difficulty in translating expressions related to the western culture;difficulty in conveying the ironic tone in the source text;difficulty in presenting the comic effect of the source text,and the translation strategies including domestication and foreignization.Other translation methods such as transliteration,amplification,omission,division,conversion,combination,four-character structure,and borrowing have also been deployed as auxiliary translation skills according to the context of the source text.Part Four contains limitations in this translation and expectations in later translation.Through this translation practice,the translator gets to know it is necessary to widen the span of knowledge and take advantage of network resources,so as to continuously enhance translation ability in later translation practice.
