Taking the regular script epitaph in the Northern Song Dynasty as the research scope,this thesis collates 334 unearthed regular script epitaphs in the Northern Song Dynasty to analyze the distribution,style changes and the reasons for the formation of the style of regular script epitaph in different periods of the Northern Song Dynasty,and summarizes the style change of regular script in this dynasty.What’s more,this paper examines the regular script epitaph in the Northern Song Dynasty from the perspective of calligraphy historiography and calligraphy art aesthetics.Roughly,the specific situation of each stage is as follows:During the period from emperor Taizu’s Reign to emperor Zhenzong’s Reign in the Song Dynasty,the style of regular script epitaph follows the example of Ouyang Xun mostly,with“Qing” and “Jing” as the main aesthetic.Since the end of emperor Zhenzong’s Reign,Yan Zhenqing’s regular script has been widely accepted and gradually replaced the aesthetic status dominated by the calligraphy style of “Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi”.Through the praise of aristocracy of the times and literati in emperor Renzong period,Yan Zhenqing’s calligraphy becomes the mainstream,so that most of the regular script epitaphs in the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty show Yan Zhenqing’s calligraphy style.From the period of emperor Shenzong’s reign to the end of the Northern Song Dynasty,the style of regular script epitaph gradually gets rid of the criteria of the regular script of the Tang Dynasty,and is influenced by the calligraphy style of Shang Yi,forming the unique appearance of regular script in the Northern Song Dynasty.What’s more,as far as the epitaph of the imperial clan of the Northern Song Dynasty is concerned,its calligraphy style is mainly “Yuan Ti style” in the early Northern Song Dynasty,gets rid of “Yuan Ti style” in the middle stage and imitates Ouyang Xun’s calligraphy style,and presents the style of regular script in the late Northern Song Dynasty.This paper attempts to expand the scope of research on the history of calligraphy in Song Dynasty,and truly reflect the original appearance of regular script in Song Dynasty.On the basis of improving of perfecting previous research on the calligraphy style of famous calligraphers,cursive script and Shang Yi in the Northern Song Dynasty,this paper expands the new vision of folklore calligraphy and regular script in the Northern Song Dynasty.
