The Study Of Town Narrative In Yan Ge’s Novels

As a "post-80s" writer,Yan Ge’s creation is far beyond her peers.Due to the influence of her own family,Yan Ge has always regarded mainstream serious writers as her goals.In her works,she has a strong consciousness about creation,meanwhile,Yan Ge always maintains strong stylistic awareness and vanguard character on narration.In the “Pingle Town” series,this nature is manifested as a peculiar narrative strategy,which makes the works full of unique narrative tension and plentiful interpretability.As a specific space of novels,the town written by Yan Ge also provides us with a window to observe the small towns in southern China in the 1980 s and 1990 s,even the entire China.Her personal experience and reshaped spirit value have been displayed in the daily life of the town,which contains a great ambition.Yan Ge’s narration about regional life extends the Chinese language and express China.The “Pingle Town” in Yan Ge’s work is actually a mixture of concreteness and abstraction,however,the identity of "urban-rural junction" is also the identification of the current Chinese cultural context that implicates the character of ambiguity,complexity and vagueness presented by rural China in the process of modernization.Yan Ge’s unique dialect writing is an expression of her "China" and "Chinese" consciousness,as well as her attempt to deal with the construction of Chinese identity and Chinese image in the background of globalization.However,Yan Ge’s narration of "Chinese" in the mirror image of other countries clearly has a tendency to make "mother tongue"(Sichuan dialect)and "Chinese" intrinsic and magical.With the strong desire to construct language awareness and identification of Sichuan and China,Yan Ge’s dialect practice has opened a new round of discourse construction.It gives us the access to Yan’s spiritual structure,allowing us to focus on those small towns on the edge of city.The changes of the times have branded them,meanwhile,the dual dilemma of survival and spirituality caused by the wave of globalization has engraved those writers born and raised in Sichuan into the development process of Sichuan and even China.This study mainly discusses the “Pingle Town” series in Yan Ge’s later writing career.Firstly,on the basis of concept clarifying the township and the town narrative,this thesis analyzes the ideological background of Yan Ge’s town narrative to explores the spiritual origin of the formation of “Pingle Town”;then it discusses the artistic construction of “Pingle Town”to analyze its real regional prototypes and textual social spaces,which can provide a narrative carrier for novels.Secondly,the thesis analyzes the narrative strategy and its post-modern vanguard characteristics under the compound of pioneering property and popularity,as well as the contemporary reflection expressed by the deep aesthetics implications in daily narrative.Finally,the thesis discusses the significance of image(symbol)construction of “Pingle Town”and Chinese identification crisis implied by the town’s cultural identity.Afterwards,the thesis tries to explore the value of the town narrative and to analyze Yan Ge’s attempt to construct hybridity of Chinese,which can demonstrate the spiritual character and narrative "ambition" revealed in Yan Ge’s writing about China.
