The development of enterprises needs a large number of excellent managers,and correspondingly,the market demand for business management books is also increasing.Therefore,the translation of such high-quality books is also required by the current market.However,book translation is not just a simple conversion between different languages,but also a complete presentation of the original information,in which accurate transmission of information is the premise of effective presentation of content.However,it would cause the departure from formal correspondence in the process of translation.This report selects the second part of Harvard Business Review Manager’s Handbook: The 17 skills Leaders Need to Stand Out as the translation object.And the report is guided by Catford’s Translation Shift Theory,discusses how to generate semantic equivalence from the vocabulary and grammatical structure and aims to create a translation conforming to the expression habits of the target language on the basis of content equivalence.So,in this translation,the translation shift is adopted in order to solve the problems that the absolute equivalence between the source text and the target text cannot be realized.Under the guidance of Catford’s translation shift theory,this report discusses the translation shift in vocabulary,syntax and grammar of two aspects: the level shift and category shift.After the case analysis of the translation shift,the author believes that the application of Catford’s translation shift theory can not only enable the target text to convey the original information accurately,but also ensure the fluency of the target language and conform to the target readers’ language norms and habits.Moreover,in the translation process,choosing the correct and appropriate translation methods and applying them effectively,the quality of the translation and the ability of translation can be improved.Therefore,Catford’s translation shift theory has guided significance and practical value in book translation.Finally,it is expected that this translation can be an opportunity for business management enthusiasts to have a preliminary understanding of management concepts and the report would have some implications for the Chinese translation of English management book. |
