A Contrastive Analysis Of Animal Metaphors In Chinese And Uyghur

Animal metaphor originates from people’s life practice and is the most common metaphor expression in language communication.People use animals to metaphor people or things related to people,which can not only indirectly express the speaker’s speech focus,but also show the speaker’s style of humor.Analyzing animal metaphors can explore the cognitive process of different animal metaphors in human brain.Animal metaphor takes animals as the origin domain and human beings as the target domain,and takes the cognition of animals in human brain and the cognition of human beings as the experience.The similarity conditions of the two generate Association,and finally form the concept of animal metaphor through mutual mapping.The study of animal metaphor cognition in Chinese and Uyghur is based on conceptual metaphor.Through the collection,collation,induction,analysis,elaboration and comparison of Chinese and Uyghur idioms,this paper analyzes the metaphorical meanings of animal metaphor in Chinese and Uyghur.This paper makes a comparative analysis of the cognition of animal metaphor in Chinese and Uyghur from four parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which first summarizes the basis and significance of the topic,then summarizes and displays the development of metaphor research and animal metaphor research at home and abroad in recent years,and finally states the research ideas,methods and innovations of this paper.The second chapter is a definition of related concepts and their classification standards.The concept of metaphor is defined by Johnson and Lakoff in the book metaphor we live by,which is regarded as a cognitive behavior.According to the nature of origin domain,the classification of metaphor can be divided into animal metaphor.According to the perspective of the research and the situation of the corpus,from different metaphorical meanings,it can be divided into five categories: the physical characteristics of animals,instinctive nature,behavior and action,population relationship and survival law,which are mapped to the target domain people.The third chapter makes a systematic comparative analysis of the cognition of animal metaphor in Chinese and Uyghur.First of all,the statistics of the number and proportion of the collected data are made,and the distribution of animal metaphors in Chinese and Uyghur is perceived as a whole.According to the data,this paper analyzes the mapping relationship between human and animal in animal metaphor cognition from five aspects of animal’s physical features,instinctive nature,behaviorand action,population relationship and survival rules.Finally,the similarities and differences of animal metaphor cognition in Chinese and Uygur are found through comparison.The fourth chapter finds that the living environment,aesthetic psychology and cultural communication are the objective factors that affect the cognition of animal metaphor in Chinese and Uyghur.Under the common cultural background,Chinese and Uyghur have the same cognition of most animals,different cognition depth and subjective emotion of individual animals,and different cognition bias of metaphor of very few animals.The analysis of metaphorical cognition of animals in Chinese and Uyghur can provide reference for language teaching and cultural life.
