Liang Qichao’s Thought Of "New Mohism"

Liang Qichao,as a famous thinker in modern Chinese history and a representative of modern Chinese reformers,stood out resolutely when the country and the nation were facing crisis.Liang Qichao received enlightenment education since he was a child and had a profound knowledge of Chinese studies.After learning from Kang Youwei,he gradually came into contact with Western academic ideas during his study in Wanmu Thatched Cottage.he was well-educated,he could not only be familiar with foreign languages,but also translated Western works into Chinese.Liang Qichao has both a background of Chinese culture and Western Studies,which has laid a solid foundation for the study of Mohism.Especially influenced by the studies of Mohism by the academic giants such as Sun Xingyan,Yu Yue,Bi Yuan,and Sun Yirang,and by the trends of thought in Western evolution and civil rights,Liang Qichao is the first thinker who systematically studies Mohist thoughts with western social science methods.Therefore,Liang Qichao’s research in the field of ideology of Mohism marked the embryonic form and beginning of the study of "New Mohism".In the study of "New Mohism",Liang Qichao has made many achievements.In order to solve the shortcomings of the classics of Mojing,such as strangeness,obscureness,and confusion,and let more people know and understand Mohism,Liang Qichao absorbed the methods of his predecessor’s interpretation of Mojing.Established the school annotation method for the "Manuscript of the Title",in order to meet the social and political situation of emancipating the minds of the people,Liang Qichao re-interpreted and explored Mohism from the aspects of politics,economy,philosophy,logic,military,science and technology,in order to explore the value of modern thought in Mohism,Liang Qichao compared Mohism with modern western cultural thoughts and conducted a systematic study of the logical ideas contained in Mohism.Liang Qichao’s works are numerous,wide-ranging,long-term and fruitful in the field of Mohism,which marks the beginning of "new Mohism" and marks great contributions to the revival of modern Mohism.This paper makes an objective evaluation of Liang Qichao’s "new Mohism" thought in the establishment of the method of proofreading and annotation method for the "Manuscript of the Title",the establishment of the position of Mohism logic in the history of world logic,the provision of ideological basis for the movement of saving the country and the people,and the historical contribution to the enlightenment process of modern Chinese thought.In terms of historical limitations,Liang Qichao’s thought of "new Mohism" lacks criticism of traditional Mohism,the annotation of Mohist classics is not strict in abidingby common rules,and overemphasizes the similarities but ignore the differences between the Mohism and Western learning.The Contemporary Enlightenment of Liang Qichao’s "new Mohism" thought is mainly embodied in three aspects: the enlightenment to the construction of contemporary social spiritual civilization,the enlightenment to the promotion of traditional culture and the establishment of national cultural self-confidence,and the enlightenment to the objective understanding and treatment of Chinese and Western cultural thoughts.
