Abstract/Summary:
The source text of this translation report is taken from Chris Bonner?s Designing Environments for People with Dementia,a 2005 medical English publication.As a branch of the scientific writing,medical English has its unique register features in terms of vocabulary,syntax,etc.The guiding theory of the project is register theory which put forward by Halliday.The translation project explores the application of register theory in medical English.In this translation project,the translator analyzes the applicability of three variables of register to solve the problems in translation.This translation project is expected to provide a reference for improving the nursing environment of dementia patients in China.The translation report is constituted of five chapters.The first chapter is an overview,including the significance of the topic,text features and text content;The second chapter is theoretical framework,which briefly introduces the register theory,its functions and applications.The third chapter is translation process.It contains three steps: pre-translation preparation,translation processing and post-translation review;The fourth chapter is case analysis of translation.It is the key part of the project to analyze the features and the mapping of register;The last chapter summarizes the guiding significance of register theory in translation practice,dwelling on the problems and translator?s reflections.
