“For the revival of the Chinese nation,for the development of every student” is the basic idea of curriculum reform in China.This idea is deeply influenced by the theory of educational psychology and the practical experience of education and teaching.And in the current curriculum reform,teaching focuses more on students’ development as a whole,and finally return to students’ life to search for the knowledge construction that students can better understand.With the continuous development of curriculum reform in China,English teaching in junior middle schools experiences challenges and changes at the same time.In the long run,the reform is not only reflected in the teaching concept,but also in the teaching mode and the teaching method.One of the important purposes of English teaching is the cultivation and training of junior middle school students’ reading ability.However,the current teacher-oriented teaching not only decreases the teaching efficiency,but also contributes little to students’ reading skills.English teaching should focus on the development of students,as students are the principle part of learning.If we want to change the current situation,we as teachers of the new era,therefore,have to reshape our way of thinking and start to develop effective teaching methods.Based on Piaget’s constructivism theory,this paper takes 95 students from Grade 9in a middle school of Yining City as the research object.The study applies learner-centered teaching strategies in experimental classes,and conventional teaching mode the control group.And through the questionnaire survey,the test,the interview,the study collects data.The data are analyzed quantitatively by SPSS19.0,and the students’ reading comprehension scores are compared.As you can see from the results of the study,learner-centered teaching of reading contributes to students’ reading ability.The reading class inspired by Constructivism can stimulate students’ interest,cultivate students’ reading ability and improve students’ reading performance and take larger advantage than traditional teaching.
