The use of correct strategies and techniques can greatly reduce the pressure of interpreters and help practitioners to improve their work efficiency. In recent years, combined with pragmatics, psychology, sociology and cognitive sciences, studies on interpreting have broadened the academic vision. This report selects a pragmatic theory to study one of the author’s interpreting tasks.Rural revitalization has been a hot topic in China’s development in recent years and CSA can help promote sustainable development,so the author selected an escort interpreting practice in the agricultural field as the research object. In this report, the author takes the escort interpreting task for the 10 th China CSA Conference as the case to analyze the useful interpreting strategies and techniques by using exemplification and induction. The author provided a four-day escort interpreting service to an Indian guest in this task,in which she was responsible for airport pick-up and drop-off,accommodation arrangement, and meeting and tour escort for the foreign guest. As an escort interpreter, the author provided consecutive interpreting in a workshop and a parallel forum, which was the source of the audio text for this paper. In this practice, the author did preparations by collecting relevant information about the conference, preparing a glossary of terminology, being familiar with Indian accent, and doing psychological construction and physical exercise.Taking Adaptation Theory as a guide, the author analyzes the problems encountered in the practice and proposes corresponding solutions after finishing the task.Adaptation Theory provides four research perspectives for the study of interpreting process, namely the contextual correlates of adaptability, the structural objects of adaptability, the dynamics of adaptability and the salience of the adaptation processes. From these four perspectives, this paper verifies the effectiveness of the adaptation strategies for interpreting practices with examples.By analyzing the chosen case, the author had a more comprehensive understanding of the interpreting process, and then she concluded that the Adaptation Theory is able to expound interpreting phenomena and guide interpreting practice. The interpreting strategies under the guidance of Adaptation Theory are achieved through contextual correlate of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability, which is a dynamic adaptation, and the interpreter’s salience adaptability will help realize dynamics of adaptability.Besides, amplification, division, conversion, abstraction, negation and other interpreting techniques are useful, under the guidance of the adaptation strategies,to deal with cross-cultural barriers, language structural differences, and words or sentences with dense information encountered in the process of interpreting. This interpreting analysis was a study from the perspective of a pragmatics theory. The author took a task in the field of agriculture as a case, which gives some specific examples for interpreting study and Adaptation Theory study. This interpreting practice may attract more attentions on CSA and promote exchanges in this field. All of the above are the innovation points of this paper. In the end,the author realized that being fully prepared, good communication skills, reflection after practice and understanding of the significance of theory in guiding interpreting practice are essential capabilities for interpreters.Based on reflections and suggestions, this report hopes to provide references for future escort interpreting practices in the field of agriculture and for future study of Adaptation Theory in interpreting. |
