A Report On The Interpreting Task For K2K3 Training In Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant

K2K3 Training Project is hosted by CNNC Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant with an aim to improve the professional skills and management capabilities of engineers from Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Plant.In the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,the project has effectively promoted the critical cooperation between China and Pakistan in the high-tech field.The interpreter has completed the interpretation task at Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant from October 8,2018,to December 20,2018.Guided by Seleskovitch’s interpretive theory,this report analyzes the examples in the field interpretation of this training project.Seleskovic argues that the interpreting process is divided into three stages,the first stage receiving semantics through comprehensive understanding,the second stage getting rid of the language shell of the source language(SL),the third stage using the target language(TL)to re-express(张吉良,2011).Since the theory was put forward,it has received extensive attention from scholars around the world and has profoundly influenced the training and teaching of interpretation.Three strategies are discussed to cope with different situations:using comprehensive principle to master professional terminology and to familiarize accents to overcome the barriers of accents,adopting the deverbalization principle to grasp the main points and rationalizing the logic,taking the reformulation principle to handle the expression of idioms and metaphors in Chinese effectively.Under the guidance of interpretative theory,the interpreter has successfully completed the interpreting task and provided customers with satisfactory service after solving many problems in the interpreting process.This report is mainly composed of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction in three parts including the background of the Qinshan nuclear power plant,the situation of the project,and the requirements of the interpreter for this task;then,the necessary preparation of the interpreter including the professional construction knowledge and the combination with the interpretive theory;next,the case analysis comprised of three strategies of interpretive theory were highlighted with typical examples provided by the interpreter;last but not least,the evaluation of the interpreting task is discussed in three sections as a reference for future practice.To sum up,interpretive theory functions well as a theoretical guide for interpreting.This report can be used as reference for on-site interpreting and consecutive interpreting classroom.
