| 5G,as the current leader of communication technology,is leading the direction of social development and is profoundly changing people’s way of life.In order to gain a dominant position in the fierce competition as well as support their own network providers and technology companies to actively develop 5G technology, corresponding policies and measures have been launched by various countries.Foreign documents on 5G can not only enable Chinese people to know the development of 5G in other countries and the related policies, but also bring some inspiration to Chinese communication workers,so the translation of documents on 5G is particularly important. This report analyzes the Chinese translation project of Fifth-Generation(5G)Telecommunications Technologies: Issues for Congress under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Factors affecting 5G deployment,5G race,American related policies and so on are discussed in the original text, what’s more, the translation is of great significance to China’s 5G development so the translator needs to fully understand the terms and convey the content of the source text accurately.Combining with the three rules of Skopos Theory:skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the author analyzes the difficulties of translation at the levels of vocabulary, syntax and text.Lexical difficulties mainly cover terms, foreign companies’ and organizations’ names, abbreviations and polysemy.Passive voice is the main difficulty in sentence translation.Discourse difficulties mainly include the coherence and the translation of pronouns. The author provides the feasible solutions according to the three aspects. At the lexical level, the author adopts literal translation plus explanation, conventional translation, free translation and zero translation; At the syntactical level, conversion of sentence patterns, adjustment of sentence structure and amplification are proposed; At the discourse level, the strategy of reference and conjunction are adopted. The author hopes to both improve his translation ability and offer a few suggestions and references for the translation of documents on 5G through this translation practice. |
