| English reading,which accounts for a large proportion of score in various English examinations,plays a significant role in English learning in senior high school.The traditional English reading teaching is teacher-centered which makes students lose their interest of English learning gradually.However,cooperative learning is an effective English teaching method which is widely recognized and applied both at home and abroad and it is a breakthrough of traditional teaching model.The study aims at exploring the application of cooperative learning in English reading teaching in senior high school.The purpose of this paper is to investigate the following two research questions in detail:1.To what extent can cooperative learning method motivate the senior high school students’ interest in English reading?2.To what extent can the cooperative learning effectively improve the senior high school students’ English reading ability?On the basis of a large number of theoretical researches,this paper carries out a teaching experiment on English reading teaching,using questionnaires,tests and interview to prove that the cooperative learning method has a positive impact on improving students’ English reading ability.The experiment takes two paralleled classes in Grade One in a senior high school as subjects and lasts for four months.The two classes are divided into experimental class and controlled class and the students in the two classes are of equivalent academic level.The English reading classes of experimental class are organized by cooperative learning teaching method and the controlled class still uses traditional teaching method for conventional teaching.The data analysis shows that the cooperative learning can stimulate students’ reading interest and their reading ability are significantly improved.The research shows the availability and feasibility of the application of cooperative learning method English reading teaching in senior high school. |
