As a traditional folk art with a long history,Chinese New Year picture has its unique aesthetic characteristics and artistic style which is worth studying by modern art.However,the theme,content and style of traditional New Year pictures are out of touch with the aesthetic taste of modern people after the change of times and environment.Since the Qing Dynasty,the Spring Ox picture has been one of the necessary new year’s products for Chinese people.Its rich and colorful theme content are on the basis of huge productivity.However,as one of the few traditional Chinese New Year pictures that is still printed and produced,Spring Ox picture also faces the problem of losing traditional image language and being unable to adapt to the modern living environment.This is a pity indeed.By combing the historical background of the Spring Ox pictures,this paper finds that it is based on the folk imitation of the palace New Year pictures about their spring festival culture.Under the fermentation of numerous folk artists’ creativity,it has become a cultural symbol with the meaning of greeting spring,persuading people to cultivate agriculture,eliminating and avoiding disasters.Its compound theme content breaks through the time and space in traditional New Year pictures,thus creating a multi-dimensional narrative technique.This paper analyses the content of its image,composition,modeling,color aspects of the system,the art style etc,and they will be used in the creation of modern New Year pictures.A series of new year’s paintings with the theme of 24 solar terms culture are all refined from the traditional Spring Ox pictures.On this basis,modern materials are used to package it,so that it can become a set of art works with both traditional and modern senses,so as to achieve the goal of helping traditional New Year pictures adapt to the modern art context. |
