| With the development of economic globalization,it is necessary for the government officials,employees in finance sector as well as related scholars to know the latest information and research achievements of financial sector.The book Handbook of Monetary Economics collects the cutting-edge research achievements in financial sector;therefore the translation of this book will be of great benefit in learning and spreading finance information and research achievements.Under the guidance of the Skopostheory,this report will study the E-C translation of The First Chapter “The Mechanism-Design Approach to Monetary Theory” of Handbook of Monetary Economies from the perspective of target text receiver’s characteristics and combine with the key points and difficulties during the translation to explore the E-C translation strategies of financial text translation.It is found that there are three textual characteristics of financial text:lexically,professional words and terminologies are abundant,and the meanings of some words depend on the context;syntactically,long and complex sentences as well as passive sentences are frequently used;textually,the cohesion and the inside logic of the text are compact.In view of these characteristics,this report proposes some translation methods and strategies: lexically,to find the corresponding meanings of the professional words and terminologies in the dictionary,and sometimes to change the meaning or concept according to the context;syntactically,to separate or converse the word order of long and complex sentences,and to change passive sentences into active ones;textually,to underline the inside logic of a text in accordance with the function and role of each text.It is hoped that the translation methods and strategies proposed in this report can provide reference for the translation of similar financial text meanwhile inspire the study upon the translation of financial text.To some extent,it will be conducive to the spread and study of latest financial research achievements and information. |
