Reality TV(also known as Reality Show/TV Reality)generally refers to the use of television media as a medium for ordinary people who are not actors to make their own actions in a prescribed situation, according to predetermined rules, for a clear purpose, while being recorded and made into a television program. With the introduction of more and more overseas reality shows, this form of programmes has begun to become a social and cultural phenomenon of universal significance in China. In addition, the popularity of reality show cannot be separated from the role of subtitle translation, which serves as a communication bridge between the program and the domestic audiences. The translation strategy used for the subtitles of reality shows determines the acceptance of the programs and the success of overseas popular culture in reaching the audience.Since subtitle translation is audience-oriented translation,in the process of this study, the Skopos theory provides the theoretical basis for the case analysis of this paper. Therefore, the author uses Skopos theory to research the subtitle translation of reality show from the perspective of the target audience. This paper takes The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as research object, which reflects American upper-class life and shows contemporary overseas popular culture, and explore the subtitle translation strategies of the program. As a celebrity reality show, the program was made in Beverly Hills,it shows the daily life of seven rich ladies. The reason why the program can attract the attention and hot discussion of Chinese audience is not only its extravagant and intriguing content, but also its subtitle translation, which plays a key role. Therefore, this paper selects 19 bilingual subtitles of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for in-depth analysis, and uses literature analysis, case study and text analysis to summarize and analyze the English-Chinese translation strategies and effects of the program from specific contexts and translation difficulties.Through the study,it is found that the subtitle translation is based on the main principles of Skopos theory, and in view of the actual difficulties of subtitle translation, the translation is oriented to the target language, paying attention to the target audience, the quality of subtitles and the acceptability of translation in the target language;secondly,in order to realize the translation purposes of effective communication with domestic audience, achieving communicative purposes, and showing the concept and culture of overseas life, the translation text integrates the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization.Meanwhile,in order to solve various translation problems and conditions, the translation strategies of literal translation, addition, omission, and reductive paraphrasing play an important role.By analyzing the English-Chinese translation strategies and evaluating the effects of the program, this thesis concludes that the subtitles of entertainment programs such as reality shows are full of complexity and special features,so it is necessary to choose translation strategies according to their characteristics, take the target language as the guide, take care of the audience’s acceptability, and use different translation strategies comprehensively in order to achieve better translation effects.
