| As reform and opening up is increasingly deepened,more and more foreign enterprises build their subsidiaries or companies in China in order to expand market.Meanwhile,there is an increasing number of foreigners who come to China for work opportunities.For some enterprises or companies,management of foreign staffs has become an essential part of their development,so it is necessary to provide English versions of enterprises’ documents.In this sense,the translation of employee handbooks as one of crucial documents holds the key to the success of management of foreign personnel.Based on the translation of Employee Handbook of Jinhua New Oriental Academy,this translation practice report studies the translation of employee handbook from the perspective of Translation Variation Theory.The author handled its translation by using seven translation variation devices,which includes addition,omission,combination,editing and others.It hopes to give advice for the translators of employee handbooks.Among the variation devices,addition is used to tackle culture-specific items,deletion to deal with redundant expressions,combining or condensing sentences to avoid ambiguity and editing the source text to achieve concise translation. |
