The issue of free will is one of the most challenging problems in philosophy. In the past two thousand years, the term "free will" has been regarded as an important normative sign of certain control over human behavior.Western philosophers of every era have argued about the nature of this control and the problems with it.When exploring the control involved in free will,we will consider such things as causality, natural laws, time, matter, the reduction and emergence of ontology, causality and rational-based interpretation, the nature of motivation, and more generally human issues. When evaluating the importance of free will,we will consider the issues of right and wrong, good and evil, virtue and vice, blame and praise, reward and punishment, and due.The issue of free will involves many disciplines and departments. It is an old topic with continuous development, which runs through the whole history of the development of western philosophy.Nowadays, with the rapid development of physics, psychology, neuroscience and other related disciplines, the issue of free will has become a hot topic of general concern among Western philosophers. As one of the most influential thinkers in modern and contemporary times,Habermas has also made relevant discussions on this issue.Unlike many philosophers,Habermas pointed out the role of social factors, emphasized that the socialized brain should be used as the research object, and free will is positioned as an inevitable part of our practice of responsibility imputation. At the same time,he pointed out that causal force is not the true freedom that we are concerned about. What we are concerned about should be the rationality and legitimacy of the subject. It is worth noting that emphasizes the rationality and legitimacy of the subject seems to inevitably attribute the causality of arbitrary body movement to the special case of freedom of action, but the behavior of great significance to us is the freedom of subject we really care about. Therefore, this restricts the freedom of subject to the realm of self-adjustment based on reason.Based on this position,on the basis of transcending the philosophy of consciousness,Habermas used the themes of intersubjectivity, performativity, and moral autonomy to answer many questions related to free will and built his unique theory. Therefore, paying attention to Habermas’s theory of free will is significant. For one thing,it provides a new way to solve the problem of free will;for another,it provides inspiration and reference for the enrichment and development of philosophy in Marxism. |
